EKG Rhythm Identification

This 12-hour course is designed to provide a comprehensive study of basic cardiac arrhythmia identification.


We will:

-Cover the basic anatomy and physiology of the cardiac, pulmonary, and vascular systems.

-Review the equipment and supplies used in telemetry, the components of a cardiac complex, and information for interpreting rhythm strips.

-Explain basic cardiac dysrhythmias, following the normal, sequential conduction pathway of the heart (i.e., atrial, junctional, and ventricular dysrhythmias), as well as heart blocks, aberrant and escape beats, and pacemaker rhythms.

-Focus on the treatment of basic dysrhythmias following current American Heart Association Standards.


This course is ideal for RNs, LVNs, Paramedics and EMTs looking to increase their cardiac clinical competency, and those wanting to be monitor technicians.


The BRN does not recognize CE’s for RNs for this class, therefore RNs will receive a completion certificate.  For specfic course approval, please contact your accrediting agency to confirm continuing education.  


If you have no previous EKG skills, this course is mandatory for the ER Program and Critical Care Series.

Continuing Education courses are offered to licensed healthcare providers. Each course description includes the date and the number of continuing education (CE) contact hours for the course. Students must complete each course in its entirety and credit for completing part of a course may not be granted. Thus, if a person attending the course leaves before the course is over, the certificate of completion cannot be issued. 


Upon completion of the course, the student will receive a certificate of completion with the number of continuing education contact hours. It is the student's responsibility to verify course approval with their accrediting agency. The certificate must be retained by the licensee for a period of four years after the course ends. 


Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 13935. Courses may be rescheduled or cancelled in the event of low enrollment or instructor emergencies.
